Annotation | Family therapy concentrates on changing the nature of relationships between family members. This article evaluates research on family therapy with older people, its usefulness from consumer and healthcare perspectives, and implications for clinical practice. While services for older people lack a holistic approach to family adaptation, the author notes that older people might experience difficulties with the approach, methods and techniques of family therapy. Furthermore, research support for family therapy is lacking: its effectiveness and cost-efficiency have yet to be demonstrated. (RH). |
