Annotation | This National Service Framework (NSF) sets out eight standards for the care of older people in all settings across health and social services. These are: rooting out age discrimination; person-centred care; intermediate care; general hospital care; stroke; falls; mental health for older people; and the promotion of health and active life in older age. The main report also describes how it is expected that the NSF will be delivered locally; and sets out "milestones", performance measures for assessing progress, and programmes supporting implementation. Most older people take prescribed medicines as part of their treatment; the medicines document describes how the use of medicines for and by older people can be improved. The executive summary outlines the eight standards and milestones. The NSF has been developed from advice of an External Reference Group (ERG), co-chaired by Ian Philp and Denise Platt, Chief Inspector, Social Services Inspectorate (SSI), supported by nine task groups examining different aspects of older people's health care.
