Annotation | A study of residents of a US nursing facility showed that social relationships formed with other residents was a much stronger predictor of depression and loneliness than social relationships with friends and relatives from outside the institution. The research was conducted at a non-profit nursing facility, located in a suburban area, with about 170 residents. All the residents who had sufficient cognitive ability were included in the study; 49 women and 22 men completed questionnaires. (KJ/RH). |
