Annotation | In trying to understand the workings of human relationships with regard to the concepts of social support and social networks, it is important that we integrate child development and gerontology. In this special issue of the International Journal of Aging and Human Development, authors from the fields of the childhood and later life studies have collaborated, to identify and fill gaps in the gerontological literature that were evident from the child development literature. Three articles consider family, friendship and sibling ties. A commentary integrating these articles discusses ways in which we might conceptualise and study social ties across the lifespan. (RH). |
