AnnotationThe purpose of the Joint Review is to provide an objective assessment of how well Leicestershire people are being served by their social services, and concludes that most are being served well. Relatively few older people are supported in residential or nursing homes; however, problems with access to home care services could undermine that positive position. There are relatively few specialist services available to people from minority ethnic groups, but a project group has been established to improve services to black elders. Other examples of good practice include: the Leicester Road Day Centre, Melton Mowbray (support to people with severe learning disabilities, and day services for older people); use of Partnership and Prevention Grant funding to develop a range of rehabilitation and preventative services for older people; and use of new technology by a respite unit caring for people with dementia. The report suggests these priorities for action: improving some frontline services (including the supply of home care, and carers' assessments); managing change; and getting the best possible performance from staff and services.
