AnnotationClinical ethics support services are defined as the formal or informal provision of support to health professionals on ethical issues arising from their clinical practice. The main focus of the project reported was clinical ethics support in the secondary and community care sector of the health service. The project comprises studies based on the following key groups likely to be sources of clinical ethics support: NHS trusts; health authorities and health boards; local research ethics committees (LRECs); professional organisations; and university departments of medical ethics. Further development of national ethics support services for sharing information and providing education is recommended; LRECs should not take on such a role. (RH).
