Annotation | More older people believe that sex is a lifelong need. This Australian study discusses how compilation of a Sexual Health Knowledge and Beliefs Index (SHKB) based on responses to a questionnaire can be used to identify those who have poorer knowledge and less positive attitudes towards sexuality in later life. Knowledge that medications and depression can affect sexual function was found to be age-related. Older people who were in a current sexual relationship were more likely to agree that sexual activity has psychological and physical benefits. Older males scored more positively on the SHKB than older females. Older people in a sexual relationship scored significantly higher on the SHKB Index than those not in a relationship. (RH). |
