Annotation | Some 1,100 Hong Kong Chinese over 60s, of whom 105 lived alone were interviewed abut their social characteristics, physical health, social support, and subjective well-being. Those living alone were found to be younger and less likely to be married. Compared with those living with others, they also had poorer self-rated health and experienced greater poverty. They also reported smaller social networks of relatives, received less instrumental and emotional support, and reported more depressive symptoms and a lower quality of life. (RH). |
