Annotation | In reviewing research into quality of life, this article shows: first, how these ideas have emerged in current discourse; secondly, how they are conceptualised and measured; and thirdly, the findings which arise. A number of quality of life measures are examined which go beyond just assessing health. Findings on the association between quality of life and family or friends support, income, crime, and health are presented. The paucity of current findings - particularly in relation to quality of life and older people - makes it difficult to draw unequivocal conclusions. Social science researchers should have a clear theoretical and philosophical foundation on which to base the design of their methodology and analysis of results. (RH). |
