Researching women and pensions empowerment and sharing 'expert' knowledge | Author(s) | Kay Peggs |
Journal title | Research, Policy and Planning, vol 18, no 3, 2000 |
Pages | pp 3-12 |
Keywords | Pensions ; Older women ; Advisory services [elderly] ; Interviewing ; Methodology. |
Annotation | The author analyses a methodological issue arising from her research on women and pensions. She discusses her experiences of being considered an expert in the field of pensions, and finding herself giving advice and information on pension options to interviewees during the research process. Her paper does not present a stage-by-stage account of her study, rather it focuses on issues concerning information sharing and empowerment. Although the researcher is often in a position to provide essential information in areas of high complexity, ethical considerations about providing faulty information and the limits of the positive effects that information sharing might achieve must also be acknowledged.
