An update on homicide-suicide in older persons: 1995-2000 editorial | Author(s) | Donna Cohen |
Journal title | Journal of Mental Health and Aging, vol 6 no 3, Fall 2000 |
Pages | pp 195-200 |
Keywords | Crime ; Death ; Terminal illness ; United States of America. |
Annotation | Although homicide-suicide rates among older people in the US are low relative to national suicide and homicide rates, they may be increasing in Florida and in other states with large older populations. This editorial notes that whereas in 1995, there was no empirical knowledge, more is known now about the clinical patterns and motivations for homicide-suicide in older people in the US. The author outlines typology, clinical sub-types, characteristics, unsuccessful homicide-suicides, risk factors, and the impact on families. (RH). |
