Annotation | Local authorities now have a duty to consult with the community about their plans for local service provision. "Learning to listen" aims to encourage both home improvement agencies (HIAs) and local authorities to look positively at how they can involve their service users effectively. The report highlights the views expressed by older people taking part in discussion groups. While those who had used an agency service were positive about the help provided, there was criticism of the low profile of HIA services both locally and nationally. Close co-operation with organisations such as Better Government for Older People and Age Concern would allow HIAs to learn from others and inform internal debate. (RH). |
