AnnotationBarriers to access to health services is an issue for many black and minority ethnic (BME) groups. Services may be provided that are insensitive or inappropriate, and language may be a particular barrier. This report is an evaluation of health access for BME people in London. BME health care strategies of health authorities and primary care groups (PCGs) are assessed. Results are reported of a qualitative survey of ten BME focus groups, three representing older people. Discussion and recommendations focused around the needs for: health promotion; better quality of and access to services; reducing the information gaps of professionals; and staff development and training. Older people's needs are singled out. (RH).
