Annotation | Behavioural symptoms and disturbances in Alzheimer's disease (AD) remain the leading cause of distress to families and patients. The management of these disturbances is not fully elucidated and not without controversy. The American Psychiatric Association's guidelines for treatment of patients with AD and the American Academy of Neurology's publication on managing AD are analysed, focusing on the pharmacological treatment of depression, and on common and conflicting recommendations.
