Annotation | Personal space has hardly played any role in the context of behavioural and psychological signs and symptoms in dementia (BPSD). This German study replicates Felipe and Sommer's 1966 study on personal space with 10 demented and 10 non-demented older people as subjects. Significant differences in reactions were found between the two groups. Demented patients reacted earlier to verbal reactions, and also reacted verbally, as compared to the non-demented group. Overall, fewer demented participants seemed to react to invasions of personal space. (RH). |
