AnnotationDirections in which reminiscence therapy has moved since the 1960s are summarised. There has been much discussion about reminiscence as therapy for people with dementia; and the term "reminiscence therapy" has been replaced with "reminiscence work" by many workers in the field. A review of the technique for the NHS-funded Cochrane Collaboration reached no firm conclusions, given a lack of scientifically rigorous research. This article introduces the work of the Remembering Yesterday, Caring Today project and the pilot study conducted with a reminiscence group at Age Exchange in Blackheath, south-east London. Workers' and carers' perceptions should be confirmed, that reminiscence with people with dementia is one of the most valuable therapeutic interventions available. (RH).
