AnnotationCharcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT) is named after three neurologists, who described a set of characteristic physical symptoms. CMT causes weakness and wasting of the muscles, especially in the lower legs and feet and in the forearms and hands, because certain nerves do not function properly. It can produce chronic pain and fatigue, and in rare instances may cause severe disability; but it is not life-threatening, and does not affect life expectancy. Despite being the most common inherited neurological disease in the world - affecting approximately 1 in 2,500 of the global population - CMT is not widely understood. This book provides practical advice. (RH).
