Annotation | The Learning and Growing Together intergenerational (IG) course was developed, to bring often-separated groups of young and old together, and to foster relationships and understanding between the generations. Activities of individual classes included interaction and corresponding with older people who had lived though World War II, singing in a choir, and keeping diaries. To evaluate the impact of the course, children were asked to provide descriptors of "old people", both before and after contact with the elders on the IG course. Four themes emerged that were consistent with the course's aims. The children indicated that: they had much in common with the elders; had developed meaningful relationships; were disappointed when elders left each time, and looked forward to seeing them the next time; and actively sought continued contact with their elders.
