Older people's housing the changing role of social housing providers | Author(s) | Malcolm Fisk |

Annotation | Social housing providers must respond to how new forms of social rented housing can more successfully effect tenants' inclusion in the economic, social and political life of their communities; and how new types of built form and/or tenure can be developed to effect greater community integration and reduce perceived differences in individual wealth and status. The author suggests that traditional notions of sheltered housing and residential care must be rejected, and, in so doing, make sure that we do not repeat the mistakes of the 20th century. Ageist staffing and management regimes of support that characterise many of these forms of provision must be replaced something more enlightened and responsive. (RH). |
