AnnotationGender-specific factors appear to affect survival in psychogeriatric patients, such as this group studied over 40 months in Perth, Western Australia. Male psychogeriatric patients were younger, but experienced twice the mortality rate of female patients. A diagnosis of dementia doubled the mortality risk in female patients, but was not predictive in male patients. Ethnic background did not influence mortality in either male or female patients. (RH).
