Annotation | The hours of care received from different sources by 12 people attending a dementia day hospital in London's East End were recorded and costed. The total mean direct cost to the public services was £400 per person per week. A caregiver's time costed at professional rates was £1,208 per person per week. Unpaid caregivers supported by publicly funded agencies provide a less expensive service compared with specialised institutional care. (RH). |
