AnnotationThe Joint Review examines the extent to which the people of Derbyshire are served by their social services. The Review found that some people were well served, but standards were not consistently applied. There are differences between teams in care management arrangements; the positive examples of services meeting adults' and older people's needs should be built on, to ensure an inclusive approach across all services. Examples of good practice include: information for users within a hospital setting, with regard to discharge; access to services via the Citizens' Advice Bureau (CAB); integrated care in a rural community; inter-agency protocols and procedures; performance monitoring of the Registration and Inspection Unit; and devolving budgets to GPs to avoid long-term placement costs. A high proportion of older people receive a home-help service, or are in residential or nursing home care. Key issues for attention are: converting strategic intent into practice; ensuring consistently delivered services; clarity of accountabilities; and performance management and review. (RH).
