Annotation | The review examines the extent to which people in Lambeth are well served by their social services. The Authority is on a list of local authorities subject to special measures by the Department of Health (DoH): services for children were the causes of most concern. Whilst there is much that is positive about assessment and care management services for adults and older people, carers' assessments are not routinely completed, affecting the Authority's ability to prepare for carer breakdown. Hospital discharge is actively monitored, with established mechanisms of health and social care liaison. Users of services were generally pleased with the day, residential and domiciliary care services they received. The Joint Review identified the development of customer focus (including responding to complaints) as a key agency priority. Service issues are having to be tackled in a context of a budget deficit. Effective processes of strategic management, service delivery and performance management are key in the Authority meeting its statutory duties and achieving good outcomes for service users. (RH). |
