AnnotationThe 1996 draft version of Dead Citizens Charter has been fully revised in the light of comments from a wide range of organisations, including churches, the funeral industry, bereavement services and others. The Charter states that everyone preparing for death is entitled to the following rights: to exercise informed choice; to be confident that expressed wishes will be respected; to expect that survivors will be helped and supported in the future; and to post-funeral care of graves and memorials. As members of society, we have moral obligations to our dead. The Charter explores the nature of these obligations, and outlines practical means by which they might be met. The importance of these rights is considered to be central to good funeral practice. (RH).
