AnnotationThis pocket guide has been developed by the Gerontological Nursing Programme of the Royal College of Nursing as part of a project commissioned by the Help the Aged Dignity on the Ward Campaign. It aims to provide an overview of the key issues needed to be considered by multi-disciplinary teams working on acute wards with older people who have dementia or who develop acute confusion (delirium). It outlines, very briefly, diagnostic features and screening for dementia and confusion, and a list of "do's and "dont's". The importance of knowing the person and his or her usual level of functioning is stressed. (RH).
