Annotation | Most local authorities acknowledge that they need some element of very sheltered or extracare housing within their local range of provision. However, there is widespread acknowledgement of the reputation of the Extracare Charitable Trust as leading in developments in this field. Contact Consulting has examined profiles and policies of some 60 local authorities on their provision for older people. This Research Briefing outlines the findings for eight of the authorities. Most set the topic of very sheltered or extracare housing in the context of two major issues: the future of residential care, and the future of conventional sheltered housing. In general, there is a lack of information concerning options, costs and consequences of different models of provision. (RH). |
