Annotation | In this 4-year study of 1,166 high cognitive functioning 60 to 70 year old participants in the Étude du Vieillissement Artériel (EVA) in Nantes, oxidative stress markers were found to be associated with cognitive decline. Those with the highest levels of thiobarbituric acid reactant substances (TBARS) showed an increased risk of cognitive decline. This result is reinforced in the lower antioxidant status subgroup. Those with low levels of selenium have an increased risk of cognitive decline. (RH). |
