AnnotationMexican Americans aged 65+ from the 1993-1996 Hispanic Established Population for the Epidemiological Study of the Elderly (H-EPESE) may have hip fracture incidence rates that place them at highest risk among the Hispanic subgroups: for women, 9.1 fractures per 1000 person-years, and for men 4.8 fractures per 1000 person/years. This extrapolates to 5,162 new fractures occurring in the entire older Mexican American population during a 2-year study period, indicating a significant health problem with this population. (RH).
