AnnotationA sample of 51 over-65 volunteers living in various communities in Indiana was evaluated for the effect of grip strength, co-ordination and hand size on using a reacher. Results indicate that co-ordination is the only predictor of the time required to complete a reacher activity, explaining 25% of the variance in reacher activity times. By focusing on co-ordination, therapists may increase reacher use, thereby increasing the independence of older people. (RH).
