AnnotationPalmore's Facts on Aging Quiz (1988) was used, to assess New York State registered occupational therapists' level of knowledge about, and factors influencing knowledge of, ageing. Results indicated that occupational therapists had basic knowledge of ageing equivalent to that of other allied health professionals. Occupational therapists working in geriatrics did not demonstrate significantly different levels of knowledge from other health professionals, although mean scores were higher than those of other health professionals. The authors suggest that participation and responsibilities within rehabilitation programmes where there are high proportions of older patients requires health professionals (including occupational therapists) to have greater knowledge of ageing to provide the broad range of rehabilitation and prevention programmes needed.
