Annotation | This is the second Joint Investment Plan (JIP) produced by Peterborough City Council, Cambridgeshire Health Authority, local health sector trusts and voluntary sector partners. Its purpose is to improve the co-ordination, commissioning and delivery of care that meets the needs of older people in Peterborough. The Plan meets the requirements set out in Department of Health (DoH) circular EL(97)62 "Better services for vulnerable people", reinforced in LASSL(98)18. The main elements of the JIP and programme for change are: promoting independence; better access to services; best value; the protection of vulnerable adults (POVA); better co-ordination of health and social care provision; identifying joint priorities for service change; and clarifying the action (including investment and re-investment) that will be necessary to achieve these priorities. Among the priorities identified are: support for carers; expansion of support to meet low level need; specialist residential provision for older people with mental health problems; supported sheltered housing; and strengthening rapid response and short-term intensive support services.
