AnnotationOlder people can be even more effective communicators and campaigners, if they are given the added support of information, skills and confidence which training can provide. The Speaking Out training project ran from June 1998 until June 2000, funded by a grant from Comic Relief. This report outlines the project's specific objectives, management, and the five course topics: using the media; planning a local campaign; meetings - planning and participating; introducing computers; and public speaking. It assesses the extent to which objectives were achieved, lessons learnt, and the project's highlights. Organisations working with older people, and older people's organisations themselves, need to identify further ways to draw out this potential, as was the project's overall aim. (RH).
