AnnotationThe independent home care sector continues to expand and is estimated to provide 65% of the 3.5 million home care hours provided by organisations in England. The total home care workforce, both independent sector and local authority, is estimated to be over 200,000. This is a summary of the main findings of the United Kingdom Home Care Association (UKHCA) report, based on the results of surveys and independent home care providers in England and their care workers. It outlines home care provision (home care hours, home care workers, turnover of home care workers, hours worked and other paid and unpaid work); recruitment; qualifications; training; and characteristics of the workforce. The research was funded by a Department of Health (DoH) grant. (RH).
