| Annotation | Some older people prefer to live alone. There are many, however, who feel isolated, fearful and desperate for company and support. The author examines the barriers to social integration for older people, with reference to the findings of a Mori survey commissioned by Help the Aged on isolation and loneliness: poverty and health play a key role. The article lists the characteristics of older people most vulnerable to isolation, and ways in which to combat isolation. (RH). |
