Annotation | The benefits of interactions between animals and older people, specifically long-term care residents, are examined. This paper presents clearly delineated steps needed for successful introduction of "live-in" animals, visiting animals and a human-animal team intervention programme. Emphasis is placed on practical advice for staff and caretakers in residential settings to help promote positive, smooth transitions toward more animal-friendly, and therefore, human-friendly facilities.
