Annotation | The words 'age concern' in this article will take on a different dimension for many readers: it is about the concerns of many older people regarding their grandchildren and their lack of contact with them. Since the inception of the Grandparents' Federation in 1987, the biggest worry of grandparents who have contacted the Federation has been the likely emotional effect on children whose grandparents have been marginalised. Such stress can have an effect on the physical and emotional well-being of grandparents. This article discusses the advisability or otherwise of court orders, and the place of mediation or involvement of social services departments (SSDs) as alternative courses of action. (RH). |
