Annotation | Grandparents are at heightened risk of a reduction or loss of contact with their grandchildren for various reasons, including parental separation or divorce. The author reviews articles and research on relationships between grandparents and grandchildren, but focuses specifically on those affected by divorce. Access and contact rights are important to grandparents. Here, the research suggests that mediation is a more feasible option with a greater chance of success, since often with use of the courts, the family relationship becomes more fraught and greater discord is created.
