Annotation | The natural environment has been missing from public policy forums and educational programmes when discussing the implications of an ageing society. When considering the themes of well-being and quality of life for future generations, the authors believe that, in addition to economics and health care, stewardship and sustainability of natural resources should also be considered. This article presents an overview of the usage of environment as a concept in ageing studies. It presents other important concepts such as sustainability, stewardship, natural capital, carrying capacity, and ecological footprint in recognising the relevance of including the natural environment in discussions about our ageing society. The authors propose directions for future research, and discuss advocacy and organisational activities related to ecology and ageing studies. (RH). |
