Annotation | Age Concern points to the need for the Government to integrate the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions' (DETR) Housing Green Paper more fully with the National Strategy for Neighbourhood Renewal and with initiatives such as Better Government for Older People (BGOP). ACE's recommendations for a more socially inclusive housing strategy are: sustaining mixed communities through new and affordable housing; affordable rents; reforming lettings policies and protecting vulnerable people; promoting a stronger role for local authorities; sustainable home ownership; reforming benefits for home-owners; improving the private rented sector; and improving housing benefit. ACE concludes that the housing needs of a rapidly expanding older population must be included as an integral part of the Government's strategy on housing. (RH). |
