Annotation | Specialist memory clinics for dementia sufferers have been set up in some areas of the UK. Many were initially set up in conjunction with pharmaceutical companies to trial anti-dementia drugs such as Aricept (Donepezil). This article notes the significant variation in assessments used for monitoring progress and the use of guidelines for prescribing. More specifically, it focuses on the need for systematic evaluation, and what might constitute suitable and helpful assessments of people referred to clinics. Initial deliberations in developing the Fylde Assessment Centre Report Form are discussed, with opinions on the advantages and disadvantages of the assessment tools chosen. (RH). |
