Annotation | Assisted living facilities are non-medical, residential settings that provide housing, meals, personal services and watchful oversight to frail older Americans and those with physical or mental disabilities. This study presents research on residents' views on quality of life (QoL), and is based on data from interviews with 55 residents in 17 assisted living facilities in three suburban counties in Georgia. The authors identified 14 domains of quality based on combined values expressed by residents. Domains included aspects specifically related with quality of care, as well as concepts connected with quality of life, such as independence and autonomy, social relationships, and meaningful ways to spend time. A key to quality was an individualised approach to care and goodness, to fit between a person's unique needs and a facility's ability to meet them. (RH). |
