What help do GPs want from specialist services in managing patients with dementia? | Author(s) | Idris Williams |
Journal title | International Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry, vol 15, no 8, August 2000 |
Pages | pp 758-761 |
Keywords | General practitioners ; Attitude ; Psychiatric treatment ; Services ; Dementia ; Social surveys. |
Annotation | The views of general practitioners (GPs) about psychiatric services for dementia were obtained by questionnaire. Provision of adequate long term care, together with support for both family carers and healthcare workers were strongly stated needs. Other needs were rapid access to care, clear diagnosis, special needs of young patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD), joint guidelines, and an increased role for community psychiatric nurses (CPNs). GPs valued the role of voluntary organisations and help given to them by consultant psychogeriatricians. (RH). |
