AnnotationIntermediate care is attracting attention because a number of factors have come together. An increase in numbers of older people may translate into increased demand for supportive transitional or intermediate care. This article suggests four definitions in the literature to indicate the diversity of approaches in providing intermediate care. Criteria for access or exclusion, and referrals to the Richard Lawn Rehabilitation Service are outlined. This is a community rehabilitation service of the North Birmingham Community NHS Trust working in partnership with Birmingham City Council Social Services Department (SSD). (RH).
