Annotation | In-depth interviews were conducted with 12 rural widowers participating in the US Rural Health and Nutrition Study, to analyse factors that put them at risk for nutritional problems, and to understand how rural residence is related to this risk. The nutritional strategies that succeeded in accomplishing food-related tasks (food acquisition and use, and maintaining food security) focused on one of three resource domains: self-care, informal support, and formal support. Both successful and inadequate strategies are identified, enabling those at risk of poor nutrition to be identified. (RH). |
