Annotation | The feasibility and effectiveness of the "Let Me Decide" advance directive education programme was evaluated with 150 veterans (i.e. pensioners) living in the community in south central Ontario, Canada. 34 with pre-existing powers of attorney were excluded. Two methods of systematically implementing the programme were evaluated after the intervention period and 6 months later. 82 (71%) of the 116 pensioners expressed an interest in receiving detailed information about the programme, 67 of whom received education. 42 (67%) of the 67 educated pensioners completed directives; at follow-up, almost all reported that receiving the education had been beneficial and should be offered to other pensioners.
