Annotation | This report covers both hospital and community services throughout the Fife area. Joint working with all planning partners is good, and all parties are developing a joint strategy for older people. Quality of life for many patients is not always given the same priority as clinical care, and is compromised by: the number of transfers within and between hospitals; delayed discharges; unsuitable accommodation; and lack of privacy, dignity, activity and choice. There is a recurring theme of inequity of availability and access to health services across Fife. Also, the supply of social services does not meet demand, and has an impact on older people in various ways, including availability of home care, delays for appropriate support at home, and avoidable crisis resulting in acute hospital admissions. Patients spoke of their concerns about the future of some health services, and that as a result of reviews, they may lose their hospitals. However, most of older people spoken to by the SHAS team want to stay in their own homes or communities, and be able to make informed choices about their future. (RH). |
