AnnotationEvaluating health and social services for older populations has increasingly become focused on quality of life as a critical outcome. During the 1980s and 1990s, thousands of Jewish people left the destitution of Ethiopia for Israel. This article describes a study of model community-based eye-care, including the impact of glasses on quality of life of a group of older Ethiopians: they felt better physically, were more able to meet their personal needs, and felt more inclined to interact socially with family and friends than a comparison group not needing glasses.
