Annotation | Most British social work literature is written assuming an urban context, with little understanding of how rural communities work. This book reviews a wide range of sources concerning demographic, social and economic factors that shape life in the countryside. Issues such as discrimination and disadvantage are presented as important aspects of rural life. The book looks at how services are planned and developed from broad general policies instituted by central government down to local initiatives. The last part focuses on practical issues in the delivery of rural social services, and reviews services such as community care, and particular issues such as racism, and rural stress and suicide.
