AnnotationThis research used participant observation and conversational techniques to examine the narratives of older American students in explaining their current academic and social interests and activities in terms of their past experiences. Students were drawn from CERP (Continuing Education for Retired Persons), a 500-member university-affiliatied organisation of retired professionals and non-professionals. Issues explored concerned their sense of self, relationships with other members of the organisation, and current and past involvement in education. (RH).
