Finding the balance older people, nurses and risk | Author(s) | Helen Alaszewski, Jill Manthorpe |
Journal title | Education and Ageing, vol 15, no 2, 2000 |
Pages | pp 195-210 |
Keywords | At risk ; Evaluation ; District nurses. |
Annotation | Many older people choose to live at home independently in conditions which are considered by professionals to be unsafe. This article examines the ways in which district nurses make decisions in balancing the conflicting aims of autonomy and safety to minimise harm, that enable vulnerable older people to continue living in the community. Nurses need to develop a range of skills through training opportunities to meet the changing needs of an increasingly vocal older population. (RH). |
